Sunday, 31 January 2016, around 5.30 a.m., the main street in Klaten was closed, merchants started to enliven the side of the road, bikers and pedestrians started to pass over and over again. It was unusual Car Free Day (CFD), this time, there were sheet music stands but no one was using them. Few people approached the stands with angklung on their hands, then a man came with conductor’s stick and started to swing it. As the song started, one by one, an army of angklung approached the group while playing them harmonically.
Surakarta District was holding an event with grand theme “Street Concert and Act of Humanity : The Hope is You”. The concert was a follow up of Musical and Choral Workshop by Kelompok Kerja Musik Distrik Surakarta and a manifestation of Youth Facilitator activity. But moreover, this event was a real action to profess love for neighbours. It was shown by some love and humanity songs, and the blood donation which was one of many real actions of love for neighbours.
The concept of Car Free Day made a difference to NAC’s previous concerts, which were shown by outdoor concert and dynamic spectators. Beside the youth as the motor of this event, children and parents from many congregations in Surakarta District were also joining with passion and joy. Enthusiasms of pedestrians, bikers and other communities were shown when they stopped and enjoyed the concert from the beginning until the end. The blood donation which was working together with local Red Cross, was also interested by the spectators and our brothers and sisters.
