Apostles in Sumatra

The District Apostle was scheduled. But at times there are situations which turn out not as planned. He could not make it. The Apostles Edy Isnugroho and Samuel Hadiwidagdo filled in and the program from 5th to 10th July did not have to be changed. They started in Pamenang with a message “God gives us strength to resist temptation” (1.Corinthian 10:12-13) A next highlight was in Purwosari where the District Evangelist Rumantiyo was ordained a District Elder. The Divine Service was based on Jeremiah 17:10 and indeed, the sermon evolved on “God looks at the heart”

“Let us support the apostolate and make God’s salvation clearly visible”
(Exodus 17:11+12) was a clear direction given. Unfortunately 25 ministers could not make it because their bus had occurred repeatedly flat tires, but to have 341 servants of God with wives together was a moving experience.

About distribution of spiritual food around us was a message based on Mark 6:37 in Mojokerto. The tour was completed in Arjosari with the conclusion “let us bear fruit until ripe” (Luke 8:14). Here the Evangelist Sardi was granted the blessing on a well deserved retirement. We wish him good health and many joyful years in retirement, in the circle of family and congregation.
Bishop Trius who has pastoral responsibility in Sumatra was overjoyed. He loves to have an assistant and great support in the newly ordained District Elder and the congregations really were thank- and joyful. Of course what added to it was the holy sealing of 12 souls.

Sumatra is one of the bigger Indonesian sub-districts where about one fourth of the membership lives. The congregations are widespread over far distances giving constantly challenges to the Brothers who reach out to them. Next year in 2017 a visit by CA Schneider is foreseen. We pray for it.
