Several singers consisting of children, young people and senior from the DKI Banten District have joined some professional singers from The Arc Choir to present a concert in Jakarta, Sunday, July 9, 2017. Held at Goethe Haus, the concert presented classical music songs from Baroque Period that have inspired many church hymns used in our church. Some music repertoire by Antonio Vivaldi, G.F. Handel, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were beautifully sung in a one-and-a-half hour concert.
Under the leadership of their music director, Arkadius Ari Wibowo, our church singers have been intensively trained for about 2 months to prepare for the concert. “This event is an important part of the effort to develop and preserve classical music, which also connect our hearts to adore God with all His works and grace for the salvation of mankind,” District Elder Susiyanto gave his impression. The concert closed with a children’s choir and a soloist guest from Japan, Machiko Okado.
NAC Gendeng Angklung Team performance in Catholic Asian Youth Day
Meanwhile in Yogyakarta a week before, the Gendeng angklung music team was invited to take part in the art performances of the 7th Catholic Asian Youth Day at the Catholic Church of Christ the King Baciro on Sunday, July 2, 2017. This was not the first interfaith cooperation for Gendeng congregation. In April they were also invited to accompany the Easter Eve Mass.
They performed two songs: “How Great Thou Art” and a medley of folk songs. It is a tangible form that music can unite church denominations and putting the New Apostolic Church as an active part of the society.
