District Elder Turino gathered all ministers and wives of the Banyumas district in a service with District Apostle Urs Hebeisen at Cilacap church. The sermon was based on a passage from Acts 4:13:
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.”
Peter and John were arrested for proclaiming the gospel. They filled with the Holy Spirit, courageously professed their faith before the Sanhedrin. Marvelled by the attitudes of these uneducated men, they attributed their boldness on having been with Jesus, the One whom the Sanhedrin had condemned to death some time before.
Through the activity of the Holy Spirit, we can encounter Jesus in every divine service. We draw from these encounters the courage to profess our faith, follow the Lord and serve Him despite all tribulations.
In the divine service, we hear the voice of the Lord Jesus. Through the Spirit, we can understand Jesus’s will through the preaching. Hearing the voice of the Good Shepherd gives us boldness. Assurance to follow the right path, even if our obedience exposes us to tribulations. His forgiveness also encourages us to forgive our neighbour and to reconcile ourselves with them. During the celebration of Holy Communion, Jesus Christ communes with us. The certainty of being loved by a perfect love makes us strong and makes us renounce all that displeases Jesus. We patiently await the return of Christ until we have the assurance of being accepted by Him at His coming
